Did you know that more than half our staff are data scientists? As we’re expanding our team x3, let’s walk down the memory and look back at how we started in 2019.

We sat down with Mojca, senior data scientist at 7Learnings, one of our first employees, to learn more about the growth journey of her and 7Learnings.

As our team is growing so fast, our tasks are also getting more versatile. It requires lots of flexibility and creativity in problem-solving as every client’s request differs. That keeps the job interesting.

Mojca

Nice to meet you; I’m Mojca!

I’m a Senior Data Scientist at 7Learnings.

Hi Mojca! Tell us more about your professional background.

I graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While being a master’s student there, I got firsthand data science experience with my master’s thesis. I got people and tech skills by organizing a summer data camp for kids and being part of a student organization, Electrical Engineering STudents’ European assoCiation (EESTEC). Later, I became 7Learnings’ very first working student, and I have stayed working here since. Fortunately, I am not a student anymore.

What’s one thing that you like about working at 7Learnings?

Flexibility. It means a flexible workspace; you can work wherever and whenever you find yourself most productive and comfortable. It also means we’re flexible for you to grow at your own pace. Not all of us at 7Learnings have the same education and working experience. Thanks to that, we always have something to learn from each other.

What is interesting about being a data scientist?

As our team is growing so fast, our tasks are also getting more versatile. It requires lots of flexibility and creativity in problem-solving as every client’s request differs. That keeps the job interesting. Additionally, because our clients are retailers, I often find their ads on my social media, for example, YouTube, which is quite funny.

What do you look for in a potential new teammate?

I’d say someone who is an eager learner and a creative thinker. Like those who can have eureka moments in the middle of the night, you know. We don’t immediately look for the perfect matched experience or degree. As you can see, I started here as a working student, and now I’m a full-time employee so having a growth mindset is quite essential. In the early days, I got to learn a lot from Martin and Felix, the co-founders themselves, and now I’m happy to be able to do that for the new joiners.

As data scientist, besides knowing numbers, good collaboration skills is an asset because we also need to talk to the clients and between ourselves. At the end of the day, we’re all looking for a friend to share a beer with!

Are you a data scientist and looking for new opportunities in Berlin? We’re always hiring! Have a look at our vacancy page and apply.
